  • Participated the training course on Production Agronomy of Grain Legumes in Sri Lanka from 9-17 July 1990, held in Gannoruwa, Peradeniya organised by the Dept. of Agriculture, Sri Lanka with Technical assistance from ICRISAT.
  • Participated the training workshop on Nitrogen15 analysis organised by Sri Lankan Atomic Energy Authority in collaboration with International Atomic Energy Agency, held at the Dept. of Chemistry, University of Colombo from 27th January to 14th February, 1992.
  • Participated the “Protective Agriculture Practical Training Course” held at Inservice Training Institute, Bandarawela, Sri Lanka from 8-11 Feb. 2000.
  • Participated and completed the training workshop on N15 analysis organized by Sri Lankan Atomic Energy Authority in collaboration with International Atomic Energy Agency which was held at the Dept. of Chemistry, University of Colombo from 27th January to 14th February, 1992.
  • Participated and completed the Training Workshop on Agroforestry sponsored by the Asia-Pacific agro-forestry Network (APAN) of the Food and Agriculture Organization conducted by the National Multipurpose Tree Research Net work and the Forest Department, held at the Plant Genetic Resources Center, Gannoruwa from 12-22 December, 1994.

  • Participated and successfully completed the Training Programme on Risk Assessment and Risk Management on Genetically Modified Organisms/Food/Feed and Processed products (GMO/FFPs) and use of Clearing House Mechanism of Cartagena Protocol on Biosaftey held at Agricultural Biotechnology Centre, Sri Lanka from 18-20 August 2008. Organized by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and Agricultural Biotechnology Center, University of Peradeniya with the financial assistance of UNEP-GEP Project for Building Capacity for Effective Participation in the Bio-safety Clearing House Mechanism.

    • Co-worker of the research project of Improving Biological N fixation of grain legumes during the period of 1990-1994 with financial and Technical assistance from International Atomic Energy Agency.
    • Co-worker of the research project of improving productivity of low-input rice based cropping system in low country Sri Lanka during the period of 1990-1993 with the financial assistance from Katholic University of Belgium and Belgium government.
    • Principle investigator- National Research Council (NRC) awarded a Research Grant (NRC/00/09) valued Rs 1.1Million on the “Management of salt affected lands in the Hambantota district, Sri Lanka” for a three year period, from September 2000-August 2003.
    • Co-worker- IUCN Medical plant Project awarded a Research grant value is Rs. 4.1 million on the Development of cost effective propagation techniques of Rathhandun, Masbedda, Elabatu and Wal Kahambiliya.
    • Principle investigator – Ministry of Environment and Natural Resource awarded a research grant (02/07/753) valued Rs. 33,000/= on the “Propagation of Rath Handun (Pterocarpus santalinus) for the period January-December 2003.
    • Principle investigator, Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (CARP) awarded a Research Grant (12/532/402) valued Rs.1,044,600/= (Rs.1.044 Million) on the “Clonal micro-propagation of Cinnamon for two year period from Sep. 2003 -August 2005.
    • Team Leader – The Green Movement of Sri Lanka awarded a contract for Need Assesment for the Agricultural projects in the tsunami affected areas in Matara, Galle, Hambantota and Kalutara districts, valued Rs. 1.5 million, funded by Norwagian Development Fund.
    • Principle investigator, Sri Lanka Council for Agricultural Research Policy (CARP) awarded a Research Grant (12/532/402) valued Rs.799,360/= on the “Micro-propagation of Red Sandal wood through Embryo culture for two year period from Oct. 2005 –Sept. 2007.
    • Team Leader – Practical Action, Sri Lanka awarded two Consultancies for the “Development of Community based Bio-fuel Energy plantation at Nikaweratya” 2007 March to 2008 Febrary and 2008 March to 2009 March.
    • Principle Investigator of the Australian Tsunami Appeal Fund valued AU$ 10,000/= on the research project on the rehabilitation of soil and water in tsunami affected areas in Sri Lanka for one year period from April-2005-March 2006.
    • Principle Investigator of the Development of Salt and Hydrocarbon contaminated soils in Tsunami affected areas in Hambantota district in Sri Lanka, valued Rs 1 million funded by Austrian Research Centre, from January to December 2007.
    • Co-ordinator of the Establishment of Center of Excellence of Medicinal Plants in Sri Lanka under the Osu Gammana Project of the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine (Rs. 2 million).
    • Principle Investigator of the Development of Agronomical package of Busy type Kotalahimbatu plantation for sustainable leaf/stem harvesting valued Rs 3 million funded by Department of Ayurvedic, Ministry of Indigenous Medicine, Sri Lanka for 5 year period from Feb 2007 to Feb 2012.
    • Principle Investigator – “Studies on possibilities of Biofuel production through selected Algae species available in Sri Lanka” Funded by National Research Council, Sri Lanka (NRC Grant 11-195), value of Rs. 2.8 million from December 2011 to December 2014.

EQUIPMENT GRANTS RECEIVED

    • Awarded Rs.390,000/= to purchase a Laminar Floor Hood Cabinet (Horizontal) to the Department of Crop Science under the support for Research Equipment Grant-National Science Foundation (Grant No: RG/2005/EQ/04.
    • Awarded Rs.177,501/= to purchase a HEPA filter for the Laminar Floor Hood Cabinet (Horizontal) to the Department of Crop Science under the support for Research Spare Part Grant-National Science Foundation (Grant No: RG/SPR/2005/08).
    • Coordinator of the Land based ecosystem program of the CIDA Restore project of the University of Ruhun funded by CIDA (43000 Canadian $) from March 2007 to March 2009.

DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES

  • Initiated to establish the Center of Excellence for Medicinal Plants in Sri Lanka at the Gamudawa site at Kamburupitiya with the financial support from Ministry of Indigenous Medicine (Rs.4.5 million for 3 years period).

  • Supervisor of the M.Sc research project conduct for the M.Sc in Environmental Science by KKIU Aruna Kumara, at the University of Moratuwa in 2003.
  • Chief supervisor of the M.Phil degreed completed by Mr. Chandana Perera Gunasena on Identifying and Mapping Salt affected lands in Hambantota district, Sri Lanka: An Integrated GIS and Remote Sensing Approach in 2005.
  • Chief supervisor of the M.Phil degree completed by Miss GDG Chaturani on In-vitro micro propagation of Red Sandalwood (Ptracarpus santalinus) through embryo culture in 2007.
  • Chief supervisor of the M.Phil degree completed by Ms C.S. Hettiarachchi on In-vitro micro propagation of Cinamon (Cinamomum zelanicus) through embryo culture in 2007.
  • Chief supervisor of the M.Phil degree completed by Miss P.S.Warakagoda on In-vitro micro propagation of Red Sandalwood (Ptracarpus santalinus) through tissue culture in 2008.
  • Supervisor of the research project completed by Mrs. Chandima Gunawardana for the M.Sc in In vitro Micropropagation of Masbedda (Gymnema sylvestre R. Br. Cx Schult) and comparision of Gymnemic acid in In vitro and In vivo conditions. University of Colombo in 2007.
